The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), formed in 1896, is a nonprofit organization devoted to fire safety standards and codes. Its membership works to determine safe practices and establishes standards for all areas of commercial, industrial and residential construction. NFPA published documents include NFPA 70 - better known as the National Electric Code, and NFPA 496 - the document that specifies recommended practices for pressurization and purging.
